Peter Bentley Brandt was born on the East Coast of the United States but spent his formative years in the United Kingdom, outside of London. He became interested in art at an early age, influenced by his grandmother’s role as a trustee at the Carnegie Museum of Art and his great-grandfather’s establishment of a prize for the Carnegie International. A meeting with Thomas Gibson, a leading dealer of Alberto Giacometti’s works, marked the beginning of a career-defining mentorship. Under Gibson’s guidance, Brandt honed his skills and knowledge, paving the way for his future success as an art dealer.
Brandt went on to work for White Cube, a prominent contemporary art gallery, co-directing their São Paulo space before relocating to New York to establish their first US office. After eight years with White Cube, he transitioned to Sotheby’s, joining their private sales department as a vice president. In 2023, he left Sotheby’s to establish Ares Art Management, through which he leverages his extensive experience and network in the art world to provide bespoke art advisory and management services.
Brandt currently serves on the boards of Henry Street Settlement and the American Friends of the Borghese, New York. He is also a member of the Education Committee at the Guggenheim, New York; the Chairman’s Council at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; and the Visionary Group for Arts Education at the Aspen Art Museum.
